If we look at a $300,000 home…the commission to an agent at 5% would be $15,000 plus GST for a total of $15,750 in real estate agent costs. More Proof That Private Sellers Save More Money

In July 2007 Northwestern University released results of a study that proved owners who sell privately keep more money than people who sell with agents.

Now comes another report from the September issue of Consumer Reports Magazine that shows “homeowners who sold without an agent usually received their asking price, whereas those who sold their home through an agent got $5,000 less on average than asking.”
