Montreal Gazette Article Shows Agents and MLS are Falling Behind…

Monday, November 5th, 2007

A great article from this Saturday’s Montreal Gazette talks about Real Estate on the internet.

The article points out that “The problem with too many real estate search sites, including the Canadian Real Estate Association’s MLS website, is they offer too little information to satisfy a sophisticated user.”

The article also mentions ByTheOwner.com’s French site…”the site www.duproprio.com, where vendors can sell their properties commission-free. The best thing about the site is all its sold properties are listed with price and the number of listing days included.”

Another great point which signals a bright future for ByTheOwner.com is that “Generation Y, the so-called babies of the baby boomers, are technologically advanced, able negotiators and independent thinkers” and that this group of people “prefer to do plenty of research and make their own decisions.”

ByTheOwner.com October 2007 Webstats - FSBO Visitors Increase 72%

Thursday, November 1st, 2007

ByTheOwner October 2007 Webstats - FSBO Visitors Increase 58%
ByTheOwner.com’s website statistics for the month of October 2007:

Website visitors increased from 436,811 unique visitors in October 2006, to 751,599 in October 2007. This is a 72% increase in unique website visitors from October 2006 to 2007.

Pageviews increased from 4.5 million page views in October 2006, to 6.7 million pageviews in October 2007. This is 47% increase in pageviews from October 2006 to 2007.

Unique visitors and pageviews are the two most useful statistics when it comes to measuring the exposure you will receive from a For Sale By Owner website. Unique visitors is the number of individual people coming to look for properties on the site. Pageviews is the number of pages that those visitors look at. Fro example, on ByTheOwner.com in October 2007 we had 751,599 unique visitors and they looked at 6.7 million pages. This means each visitor looked at approximately 9 pages.

Some websites claim to have a certain number of “hits”. This is not a valid measure of website activity, because a “hit” can be counted a number of different ways. For example, if a page has 30 images on it, and one person goes to that page, it could be counted as 30 “hits”. This would be like saying ByTheOwner.com received more than 173 million “hits” in August. ByTheOwner.com does not quote how many “hits” we receive because it is not a valid stat. Unique visitors and pageviews are the only real measure of website activity.
